“1 SKEIN, WARM 1000 LIVES” ENTERS A NEW ERA OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
What began eight years ago beside an incubator in a neonatal intensive care unit has now grown into a remarkable social responsibility movement touching the lives of countless families and newborns.
The volunteer initiative known as “1 Skein, Warm 1000 Lives”, which has provided handmade blankets, comfort, and hope to premature and intensive-care babies for years, has now officially evolved into the “1 Skein, Warm 1000 Lives Association.”
Founded under the leadership of Founder and President Fatma Ezgi Yaşar Yonkuç, the association aims to expand its reach, strengthen its volunteer network, and bring hope to even more babies and families in need.
Eight years ago, while standing beside an incubator in a neonatal intensive care unit, Fatma Ezgi Yaşar Yonkuç made a simple yet powerful promise:
“Let’s go home, knit blankets, and send them to these babies.”
What started as a heartfelt act of compassion soon transformed into a growing movement of kindness supported by volunteers from different communities.
Over the years, hundreds of handmade blankets have been lovingly prepared and delivered to newborns fighting for life, bringing warmth, comfort, and encouragement to families during some of their most challenging moments.
At the heart of this extraordinary story lies a deeply personal inspiration.
According to Fatma Ezgi Yaşar Yonkuç, every blanket knitted throughout these years has been dedicated to her beloved daughter, Elifnaz, whose memory continues to inspire this mission of compassion and hope.
The blankets have also been dedicated to children like her son Kadir Kaan, and to countless babies who have experienced intensive care treatment and gone on to live healthy lives.
Each stitch carries a message of love, remembrance, and solidarity.
With its transition into an official association, “1 Skein, Warm 1000 Lives” is preparing to undertake even larger social responsibility projects in the years ahead.
The organization plans not only to continue providing handmade blankets for premature and intensive-care babies but also to develop new initiatives supporting children, families, and healthcare communities.
By bringing together volunteers who share a commitment to compassion and service, the association hopes to build a stronger culture of solidarity and social awareness.
The success of this movement has been made possible through the dedication of volunteers who have contributed their time, skills, and hearts to the cause.
Today, “1 Skein, Warm 1000 Lives Association” stands as more than an organization—it is a community united by kindness, empathy, and the belief that even the smallest act of care can make a life-changing difference.
Founder and President Fatma Ezgi Yaşar Yonkuç, together with the association’s volunteers, remains committed to supporting premature babies, intensive-care patients, and their families wherever help is needed.
What began beside a single incubator has grown into a powerful movement of hope.
And its message remains unchanged:
One skein of yarn can warm a thousand lives.
